During times when a lot of people are crowding the payment desk, or for reasons of negligence on the part of staff, payment errors occur regularly, causing unfavorable deviations in collateral consequences that affect the accounts of stores, the reliability of inventories and the accuracy of customers’ receipts.
The technological combination of the Smart Detacher solution and the Duraltag solution and payment software is the most secure and reliable response to guarantee optimum payment processes for stores.
IN OVER 5% OF CASES THE PRICE PAID AT THE DESK IN storeS IS NOT THE SAME AS THAT MARKED ON THE store FLOOR. THIS IS A DEVIATION THAT IS DIFFICULT FOR THE CONSUMER TO DETECT.
Products on sale are inevitably much more exposed to error than others. According to a survey by the DGCCRF (General Directorate for Competition, Consumerism and Fraud Prevention), 6.5% of articles on sale are not paid for at the correct price. This anomaly is often due to the fact that the product has been discounted on a one-off basis but this has not been passed on to the payment desk, where it is scanned at its usual price...
The amount charged at the payment desk is on average less than what it is labeled on the shelves, agree the researchers of the DGCCRF. This tends to confirm that most errors are not intentional.
The reality is most likely more complex. According to the DGCCRF, the majority of errors (55%) results from a modification in price registered at the payment desk that has not been passed on to the products on the shelves. In 19% of cases it is the reverse. Finally, 10% of errors are due to an error in labelling such as exchanging prices between two articles. Statistics like these do not prevent inspectors from taking cases to court for they constitute a violation of the regulations governing the advertisement of prices.
